March 13, 2020: Preparing for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)
GEM Health Care Group is closely monitoring developments related to Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), which has officially been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.
GEM Health Care Group has implemented outbreak strategies in an effort to keep residents, families and staff updated regarding COVID-19 as the pandemic evolves. Please be assured that GEM has a pandemic plan in place and is working in consultation with Public Health officials and the Department of Health and Wellness to identify any steps that need to be taken and ensure GEM is ready should a more significant response to COVID-19 be needed. While the risk in Nova Scotia remains low, the health and safety of our clients, volunteers, staff, families, and the public is our top priority.
Visitor Information
Any visitors, family, volunteers, and contractors coming into facilities must meet the following criteria (or have been tested for COVID -19 with a negative result):
Currently only family members/POA/SDM will be permitted into facilities for visitation. If any family members do not meet the criteria above they will not be permitted to enter.
If you are unable to visit your family member(s), we suggest other methods of communication including telephone conversations, FaceTime, Skype, etc. Please contact the Facility’s Director of Recreation or designate if you are interested in setting up a virtual visit with your family member(s).
If you visit any GEM Health Care Group facility please be sure to wash your hands with soap and water frequently. Please use the alcohol hand sanitizers before entering facilities and before leaving.
GEM Health Care Group facilities are adhering to outbreak measures to reduce the risk of infection and to help prevent transmission of disease. We remain committed to providing high quality care and service to our residents.
If you have any questions please contact GEM Health Care Group by emailing communications@gemhc.com or contact the Administrator, Director of Health Care Services, or designate by telephone at a specific GEM Health Care Group facility.
